Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews

MeAndEarl

This book has the most literal title I’ve ever come across. All it needs is “…and some amateur filmmaking” to cover everything. Given the subject matter, I had an expectation of what the story might be like but it surprised me. The portrayal of Rachel’s illness was unsentimental without ever being uncaring. It’s not a tearjerker, but it’s still moving. It’s honest and matter-of-fact and most of all funny. It’s also very readable, with a very informal narrator and amusing scripted sections.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
