Geek Girl is a very funny book. I can see why it’s loved by so many, though I think it’s on the younger side of YA. It is a little slapstick at times but I actually love that sort of thing. All Harriet’s misadventures felt very realistic, even when they were a bit absurd, and the situations she found herself in were easy to imagine. Harriet is very self-aware and the narration reads almost like a diary entry. My favourite character was Harriet’s Dad, who I thought was hilarious (Holly Smale says he’s inspired by her own Dad). The last chapter was cute but did feel a little out-of-the-blue and there is obviously plenty of room for sequels.
